Penn State football opened spring practice this week with one of the primary questions centering around the quarterback position as the Nittany Lions welcome five-star freshman Drew Allar to the mix to compete with veteran multiyear starter Sean Clifford. Penn State head coach James Franklin said that maneuvering around the noise surrounding the competition is his responsibility and he will do what he can to shield both players from what they may be hearing elsewhere.
Clifford has started the past three seasons and is coming off a 3,100-yard, 21-touchdown campaign in Mike Yurcich’s first year as Penn State’s offensive coordinator. Allar is the fourth highest-rated quarterback in the 2022 signing class and No. 32 player overall, according to the 247Sports Composite.
