South Carolina State played with a chip on its shoulder and stunned Deion Sanders and Jackson State in the Celebration Bowl. South Carolina State is the winningest program in MEAC history with 18 conference titles and it dominated Jackson State, 31-10.
Sanders’ son, Shedeur, was the SWAC Freshman of the Year, but he had three costly turnovers and South Carolina State capitalized. Shedeur Sanders finished by completing 16 of 36 passes for 175 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions.
But South Carolina State’s offense eviscerated a very good Jackson State defense. Corey Fields only completed 12 passes but he finished with four touchdown passes. Shaquan Davis had five receptions for 95 yards and three touchdowns in the big victory.
Deion Sanders will not have much to hang his head about. In less than a year, he has turned around Jackson State. Sanders finished with a school-record 11 wins and a SWAC Championship. He earned the Eddie Robinson Award, which is presented to the national coach of the year at the FCS level.
